Historical Facts, Housing Data and Demographics
Washington, a Pacific Coast state occupying approximately 66,544
square miles, was admitted to the Union in 1889. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the 2006
population estimate was 6,395,798 and the 2003 Median household income was $48,185 per year.
The housing units in 2005 was reported to be 2,651,645 and the homeownership rate in 2000 to be around 64.6% as compared
to a nationwide homeownership rate of approximately 66.2%. The U.S. Census Bureau also reported the median value of
owner-occupied housing units in 2000 to be $168,300.
