South Carolina, a southeastern state occupies approximately 31,000 square miles on the Atlantic seaboard and was one of the original 13 states admitted to the Union. The U.S. Census Bureau statistics has estimated the 2006 population to be 4,321,249. The number of 2005 housing units was approximated to be 1,927,864. Based upon the 2000 census data, the home ownership rate was calculated at 72.2% as compared to the national average of 66.2% and the Median value of owner-occupied housing units was estimated to be $94,900.
