Rhode Island, located in the New England area, is one of
the original 13 states consisting of approximately 1,200 square miles. According to the U.S. Census
Bureau, the 2006 population estimate for Rhode Island was 1,067,610. The housing units in 2005 was
estimated to be 447,810 and the home ownership rate calculated from 2000 Census data was
60.0% in contrast to the national average of 66.2%. The Median value of owner-occupied
housing units reported as a result of 2000 census data was $133,000, slightly higher
than the national average of $119,600.
