Historical Facts, Housing Data and Demographics
New Mexico, admitted to the Union in 1912, is
approximately 121,000 square miles in area bordering Mexico on the southwest corner. The
U.S. Census Bureau statistics report the population of New Mexico as 1,954,599 in 2006.
The 2005 U.S. Census Bureau statistics reported housing units totaled 838,668 and the
home ownership rate for 2000 was 70.0%, slightly higher than the national average of 66.2%.
The Median value of owner-occupied housing units in 2000 was reportedly $108,100 or slightly
below the national average at that time.
