Historical Facts and Demographics
Arizona, nicknamed the Grand Canyon state, is located in the
southwest section of the United States bordered by Utah on the north
and Mexico on the south. Arizona was admitted to the Union in 1912
as the 48th state and is approximately 113,634 square miles in area.
U.S. Census Bureau statistics have recorded the 2010 population
estimate at 6,392,017.
Official State Flower
You may be interested to know the Saguaro's blossom from the Saguaro cactus was confirmed as the Arizona
state flower in 1931. It typically blooms in May and June and is one of the most unique state flowers,
characterized by a waxy feel, but fragrant aroma.
Housing Data
The U.S. Census Bureau housing statistics reported:
- The 2010 housing units totaled 2,844,526.
- The 2010 homeownership rate was about 66.6%, compared to 66.9% nationally,
- The 2009 median value of owner-occupied housing units was
reported to be $187,700 as compared with $185,200 nationally.
